Afterschool today we came home to the sad sight of Davin's goldfish laying peacefully at the bottom of his fish tank. What a soldier that fish was. Hot Rod has been part of our family ever since the Beatitude's Church Carnival 1 1/2 years ago, which as you may know, is an unusually long life for a carnival fish. That fish survived furiniture relocations, changes in paint color, loud music on the radio, days at a time of forgetful fish feedings, and numerous occasions of excessive tank-tapping by small house guests.
Davin insisted that Hot Rod get the proper burial... the flushing funeral would just not be good enough. He worked hard to dig a deep hole in the backyard.
Dusan created the perfect headstone for Hot Rod.
We each stood over the fresh grave and shared our final fond memories of Hot Rod.
Davin: He was a happy fish, he was mine.
Hunter: Hot Rod was really athletic.
Dusan: He was Davin's special pet.
Me: He always did extra laps around the tank when I would come in the room to clean.
Avery: He was really shiny and orange.
Don't be sad, I can see a trip to Petco in our near future to fill the empty tank. You may leave a comment in honor of Hot Rod if it helps you get through the grieving process any quicker. Davin will be reading each one of them. Thanks.

Oh, how sad for Davin and your family. If it makes you feel any better (I'm sure it won't), Bailey also came home to a floating fish this week. The last of three that were in the tank. It's been a rough couple of weeks for the girl. I too see a Petco trip in my future. I send my condolences to you and your family.xoxo
awww RIP HotRod I am sure he lived a great life!
Is it wrong to say that grave is cute? Because it is.
Hot Rod sounds like a very special fish. If you get a new fish, he'll have big "fins" to fill!! :)
