Pumpkin Guts

Carving pumpkins is one of my favorite family activities: its neck 'n neck with dying Easter eggs. I love the dilemna of what type of face to draw, i love the kid's faces when they first stick their hand inside the "guts", i love what hard work it is to scrape out and carve the perfect grin....

I love the mess of it all...
I love that Avery insisted that NO ONE help her this year... and how she kept repeating "Yep, I'm still carvin' my punkin all by myself, with NO help from anyone!"
Hunter's was a pirate with a patch over one eye.
And Davin's was a man with a mustache, but the funny thing was when we put the candle inside it began to look like Hulk Hogan... you'll see....
My favorite part is the smell coming from the oven right now...ummm... roasted pumpkin seeds...my secret recipe... shhhh... don't tell anyone (soy sauce and olive oil) its the best!

Wildcats times 2

There is no denying my excitement to take the kids to see this one that debuted tonight across the country. I think I will hold off seeing these Wildcats until the box offices calm down...
And in other wildcat news...Villa Park Spartans beat the Brea-Olinda Wildcats 13-2. A good win, but I have got to mention how gorgeous that Brea stadium was...like being in the country with the smell of sage in the air. It was quite a sight, and unfortunately my darn camera doesn't do it any justice...
Next game is on Thursday night at Tustin (Dusan's alma mater) and also where Marijon (his dad) coached for 6 years. It should be a bitter battle.

Let's go Spartans!

Pumpkin Festival

Today we headed out to Cal Poly Pomona's Annual Pumpkin Festival (as suggested by my good friend Steffanie) and I'm so glad we did! It was so festive. My favorite part was watching the kids explore the pumpkin fields...there were thousands of pumpkins...

Avery found this one that was actually PINK!

After loading up our wagon, we headed over to get faces painted...

Another bonus, was the Insect Fair...Davin was so brave with this millipede, and later a hissing cockraoch!

I am so pleased with this last picture of the kids...don't be surprised if it ends up in your mailbox in 2 months with a red and green border around it... shhhh...act surprised!

This was such a fun project. Thanks for checking back for each daily update. I am ready to finally take the camera out of my back pocket now. It was fun to slow down and take pictures of the little things that we don't normally appreciate (or photograph). The week came to a victorious ending tonight when VIlla Park beat El Modena 38-14. The picture below (taken by a professional photographer) sums up Dusan's post-game mood...
