light a candle....

...say a prayer, cross your fingers...do whatever it takes to send good thoughts to the La Mirada United Soccer Team tomorrow at noon during their championship game. Hunter led his team to victory today in the semi finals. He scored all three goals in the 3-3 nail biter. The coach did the unthinkable and put him in for the the tie breaker penalty kicks. Each team got 5 shots at the other team's goal. Hunter is not an experienced goalie...he plays Forward. When they handed him the goalie jersey, I thought I was going to vomit right then and there. He managed to block 2 of the opposing team's kicks...they made 2 goals, and the last one luckily they missed. Our team then kicked in 3 out of 5 to win the game!!

I know they are only 8 and 9 year olds, but this tournament has been so exciting for all the players and families involved. We are emotionally invested and we really want a WIN!

cake auction

Tonight was the annual cake auction at the Boy Scouts Pack Meeting. Davin needed to take part in the preparation of the cake. He wanted to make a Tiger-themed cake,
but we compromised on an American flag.

Here is the end result... with licorice stripes and Tic Tacs for stars...
a 7 year old's dream.

Before the actual auction, we took the Tiger Cubs on an outing to the Whittier Fire Station where they climbed on the big trucks and played around in the real uniforms and gear.

After the fire station tour, it was off to the Pack Meeting for the auction. The cakes were amazing... What a variety: Star Wars, Pokemon, lots of camping themed cakes, and Davin took first place for Most Patriotic.

The boys got to try their luck at bidding with a cap at $20. We brought home a rocket shaped cake that we paid $10 for. It was a fun event all around.

Go Huskies!

Amidst all the soccer madness this past weekend, Davin had his first basketball game.
The program is through the city of La Mirada...and we love it.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
The kids learn all the basic skills and the teams are named after major colleges. Best of all, they don't keep score (at least they aren't supposed to),
so it takes the pressure off the younger, amateur teams.
Photobucket
Davin is enjoying the non-stop action of basketball. There is no waiting around
for the ball in this sport.
And I happen to think his coach is pretty cute too. =)

I didn't get to see the game myself, these pictures came courtesy of my dad.
We are all looking forward to a fun season.

soccer mania

This past weekend was the tournament that Hunter and his All-Star team had been practicing and anxiously waiting for. With the non-stop rain Friday night we were sure the tournament would be postponed. It all played out like this Saturday morning:
5:00 a.m.- I'm up checking the Doppler and the Yorba Linda mudlines- all findings don't look good.
6:30- anxiously awaiting coaches phone call to confirm
6:50- Got the call...we were playing!?!?!
7:30-Got the call- its pouring in Yorba Linda... we are no longer playing.
8:05-Got the call- nevermind...Get here! We are playing and the game starts in 25 minutes!
Dusan and Hunter jump in the car and race to Yorba Linda
8:25-Got the call- Dusan is lost and can't find the field in Yorba Linda
8:35-Got the call- The team is up by 1, Hunter scored the first goal???
Me: How the heck did he score that goal? You just called 10 minutes ago and you were LOST!
What did you do, slingshot him out the window and onto the field?
Dusan: Pretty much.
He went from this...

to this... in no time flat!

a good cause

Something Cleverish: A Blogger Book for Nie Nie

The Something Cleverish book features posts from forty-three funny bloggers - all for one great cause. All proceeds go directly to the NieNie Recovery fund. I know some people may be starting to get a little weary of hearing about this, but the medical bills they have and will continue to have are absolutely overwhelming. This is still a family very much in need. If you've been wondering what to buy people for Valentines Day? WONDER NO MORE. I can't think of a better way to spread some love. To hear the details of their story click on my Nie Recovery button on the right side of my blog. You can also buy a copy of the book here.

spring break

This weekend, Davin and i worked on this castle together. It is amazing how the kids enjoy to build, destroy, then rebuild these Lego creations. Endless fun.I am quite proud of my "servant's quarters" as Davin called them. He informed me that yellow is not a good color for castles...its a happy castle, i told him. While we were busy, Avery was out back squeezing the life out of Taco in the sandbox... After wondering why Avery kept asking me for cups of warm water, I stumbled upon her own creation. She told me her Polly Pockets were on Spring Break?? What really caught my attention was the male on-looker.
Yep, they are in "jacuzzis" in their bikinis. hmmmmm. Tell me I have nothing to worry about.

this, that, & some deals...

With this incredible spring-feeling weather we are having, i thought it would be a great day to do some planting. All of our backyard pots had that "tired from winter" look. So it was off to Lowe's for plants and seeds...
Photobucket

Avery was excited to get right into the mix of things and lend a hand.

Photobucket

Not too shabby!
Photobucket

While pulling out the old plants we dug up this beauty that resembled the human heart more than an over-grown potatoe.
Photobucket

We have found these potatoes in our planters two years in a row.

And there is nothing better on a Saturday afternoon than a nice long nap. I am well aware of how lucky I am, that my 8 and 7 year old both go down for a nap still , with no questions asked.

And this one has perfected the art of "faking it". Funny girl.

And now for the deals... Auntie Mari sent me the link to the following blogs that I have found very interesting. I hope you do too:

Here's to a finding a good deal.
